The Practice · About the CPA

Patrick Ray, CPA

A Texas-licensed Certified Public Accountant running a deliberately small, solo practice in monthly accounting and fractional financial advisory for closely held businesses and small professional firms.

Background

I am a Texas-registered Certified Public Accountant. I began in public accounting at a national firm, then spent several years managing financial reporting and controls at a large private company — where I owned the period-end close, prepared consolidated financial statements, and coordinated the annual audit.

That work — closing real books on a real deadline, then explaining the result to the people responsible for the outcome — is the whole of what this practice does for owner-led businesses and small professional firms. Uneven revenue, long sales-to-payment cycles, and partner or owner compensation are the ordinary conditions here, not exceptions.

The practice is deliberately narrow: accounting and fractional advisory only. Your tax preparer and your auditor remain independent of me, and I work alongside them.

Why a solo practice

Fifteen firms served properly, rather than a hundred served thinly.

Larger firms sell a partner and deliver a staff ladder. This practice is the opposite arrangement: a deliberately limited client list so that every close, every reconciliation, and every advisory session is performed by the CPA whose name is on the firm. When you write, I answer — within one business day.

The two engagements are described in detail on their own pages: monthly accounting and fractional advisory.

Common questions

Is Patrick Ray a licensed CPA?
Yes. Patrick Ray is a Certified Public Accountant registered with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, and the firm Patrick Ray, CPA is registered with the state of Texas.
What is Patrick Ray's professional background?
He began his career in public accounting at a national firm, then spent several years managing financial reporting and controls at a large private company, where he owned the period-end close, prepared consolidated financial statements, and coordinated the annual audit.
What is Patrick Ray's education?
He holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Texas at Tyler.
Why a solo practice instead of a larger firm?
A deliberately narrow client list means the person you engage is the person who does the work. Every close, every reconciliation, and every advisory session is performed by the CPA whose name is on the firm, not delegated down a staff ladder.
What services does the practice provide?
Two engagements only: monthly accounting and fractional financial advisory for closely held businesses and small professional firms in Texas. The practice does not provide tax preparation or attest services, so your tax preparer and auditor remain independent.
What kinds of businesses does Patrick Ray work with?
Closely held and owner-led businesses and small professional firms — generally businesses where uneven revenue, long sales-to-payment cycles, and owner compensation decisions are ordinary conditions rather than exceptions.
